Standard Word-for-Word Meaning

The true form of this cosmic tree can neither be perceived in this material world, nor can its beginning, end, or foundation be found. Even I [the speaker of the Gita] do not possess full information in this discourse, as I do not fully know the state of creation across all universes (brahmands). Therefore, using the sharp, unshakable weapon of pure, untainted spiritual knowledge (Tatvgyan), one must cut down this firmly rooted tree—realising that the worship of Niranjan (Kaal) is short-lived and temporary.

Hidden Mysteries & Secrets

The verse states that within this world, the tree's "beginning, end, or foundation" cannot be perceived.

A monumental theological point in this specific commentary line is the speaker’s admission: "Even I do not possess full information... I do not adequately know the state of the creation of all universes."

  1. Kaal Brahm / Niranjan’s Limit: The speaker of the Gita (identified here as Kaal Brahm or Niranjan) rules over 21 universes. While he functions as the master of this localized creation, he admits that he does not possess the ultimate Tatvgyan (Supreme Knowledge) regarding the origin of all brahmands.
  2. The Shift in Search: This admission serves as a vital clue for the seeker. If the ruler of this realm does not have the complete picture, the seeker must look beyond him to find the Param Akshar Purush (the Supreme Almighty) who sits above the roots.

The Weapon: Pure Spiritual Knowledge (Tatvgyan)

Since the tree cannot be climbed out of, it must be cut down. The text specifies the tool: "the determined weapon of unsmeared, pure Tatvgyan."

Unsmeared/Pure Knowledge: Ordinary knowledge teaches rituals, penance, and the worship of the branches (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) or the trunk (Kaal). This knowledge is "smeared" with material desires and fear. Pure Tatvgyan, however, is untainted truth that pierces through the illusion. It is "strong and permanent" because it does not change based on cosmic cycles.
